Which devices does the Realar Places App work on?

Realar Places is compatible with Apple iOS devices that support ARKit and Android devices that support ARCore. This means the app will work on the iPhone 6S (or higher), iPadPro and iPads from 2017 (or newer). Android devices (phones and tablets) require Android 7.0 or later (some models require newer versions as noted below). Do I need any additional equipment?

No. As long as your device runs the Realar Places app (see above), you don't need any additional devices or equipment. Simply launch the app, select your model and enjoy a full 3D experience - in a real place!

 

Where does the Realar Places App work?

Almost anywhere, as long as the app can detect a flat surface where a model can be rendered. To experience inside of a building, the 'dolls house' view is great for 360 degree perspectives. It allows you to experience a model from the inside as if it were a real building. For outside, models can be experienced in any open site, life-size, in first-person, as if you were standing outside of the real building.

 

How is AR different from VR? 

One of the main differentiating factors is that Virtual Reality (VR) requires goggles or headsets whereas Augmented Reality (AR) requires only a smartphone or tablet. AR users are able to interact with a blend of computer simulation and the real world, so users can view a 3D model of a building in a real place!

 

Can I buy internationally?

Yes, we have many overseas customers. We currently support US Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euro's (EUR, Australian Dollars (AUD) and New Zealand Dollars (NZD). All pricing excludes local taxes. We will soon better support multi-currency on our website, however contact us if you require billing in your local currency. 

Which file formats are supported by Realar Places?

You can upload 2D floorplans in PDF/JPEG and common 3D formats including SketchupFilmbox (.fbx), through common authoring software such as 3DStudioMaxRevit Collada (.dae) and Wavefront Object (.obj). We are expanding our formats all the time so please get in touch if you want to use a different format.

 

How long does conversion take?

Some formats will not convert instantly, you will be notified when the model is ready, which may take a new days [2]. We plan on making all conversions instant over time.

 

Can I have fewer than 2 users on my account?

Yes. Each plan has a minimum number of base users (2 in Standard, 10 in Advanced and 20 in Enterprise), but you don’t need to use all of the licences straight away. Since licences can be reused, many of our customers reserve their extra licences for contractors or clients.

 

Can I upgrade or downgrade my existing Realar Plan? 

Absolutely - moving plans is easy! Our Content Management system app.realar.com can be access from the Web or through the Realar Places app. Our Customer Success team is on-hand to guide you through the process. Simply hover over the bottom-right of the screen on our website, and you'll be able to communicate with the team directly.

App Camera Access (iPhone 6S and early iPads)

[1] Known issue and fix for iPhone6S and early iPads. Only early Apple devices there is a bug where, upon App installation, a user is promoted with "Realar" Would Like to Access the Camera. The Camera is required to show AR places so if either the user isn't prompted; or a user selects Don't Allow, this then causes the App to function improperly (failing to render screen graphics). 

In either case, this problem can be resolved by user You can turn Camera Settings on or off at Settings > Privacy > Privacy and toggle Realar to "on" and Restart the Realar App. For more information About privacy and Location Services in iOS 8 and later go to https://support.apple.com/en-au/ht203033.

No Preview Available

Inside the Realar Places App often models and plans that a user has successfully uploaded will show "No Preview Available". This just means that our system hasn't yet created the preview animation, rather than the model itself isn't yet available. Once your model is loaded, you will see your model name appearing in the picker (Tap left and right arrows to browse). 

Simply tap the "No Preview Available" model to download - the loading icon should appear with a % downloading message. Protip: always check you have a good Internet connection.

Surface Finding and "Floating" models

Using the Red marker-squares helps detect a "flat" surface or plane so that a model can be placed in a stable position. Sometimes however 'floating' can occur between moving between Dolls-house and Life-size views or on outside surfaces. Also reflective surfaces (e.g. glass tops) and brightly-lit white surfaces can be problematic.

In all cases, if floating occurs, tap the red-Realar icon in the bottom-middle of the App, reselect model and return to plane finding using the Red-marker until a solid square appears. Protip: try and make the Red marker-square appear three times: the more time spent detecting plans the more stable the model. 

Added models not appearing

[2] Depending on the complexity of home design, some models can take a few days to convert to AR. 2D floor-plans (such as planning approvals) should take only a few hours. More 3D complex models however take much longer. For faster conversion and performance we recommend reducing models to 100,000 polygons and under 100 Megs in project file size (mesh + textures) overall. You model should then appear in the main picker by Tapping left and right arrows to browse. 

Protip: you can check the status of your model conversion either through app.realar.com as well as email messages (check SPAM). 

Screen brightness & auto-dimming

Sometimes whilst using the Realar App, users experience brightness issues during outdoors, where auto brightness kicks on to dim the screen to barely usable. First check your device is not running in "Low Power" mode and then your normal Phone Brightness settings (up/down) are set to "full". If this doesn’t resolve the issue, go to General > Accessibility > Display Accomodations > Auto-Brightness OFF.
